"For the women's game the inclusion of new regional qualifying tournaments is an exciting development and will aid promotion of the women's game. Like the men's qualification process, tournaments involving the 83 international women's teams will be held in all six regions with 16 teams qualifying for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009 in Dubai.
Two qualifiers will come from Africa, two from North America, one from South America, three from Asia, six from Europe and two from Oceania. These tournaments will provide an unprecedented level of Rugby Sevens for the women's game supporting a key element of the strategic plan for women's rugby launched in 2006.
The inclusion of a Women's Rugby World Cup Sevens Tournament running alongside the men's in Dubai is an exciting development for the women's game. I am sure that the regional qualifying Tournaments will assist in raising the global profile of Women's Rugby Sevens," said International Rugby Board Chairman, Dr. Syd Millar.

Because there is, of yet, no club 7s championships for women, the best mechanism for viewing potential 7s Eagle candidates is through the Territorial Union (TU) 7s Championship process, especially if the player is over the age of 21.
If the player is in college (presumably U21), then the 7s Development coach, Pete Steinberg, will be present at the Collegiate Sweet 16 and Final Four Tournaments for viewing. Players in college would then be directed to a separate "7s Development Camp".
A development team will then be entered at the 7s ITTs always held in late August, and this team also has a separate Development schedule of International Events. Development players can move into the US Sr 7s pool at the direction of the Development 7s staff.
It is our philosophy that potential 7s Eagles must participate in the domestic 7s TU process to be considered for selection to a Sr. US Footwork Camp.
US Footwork Camps are held over designated weekends in Little Rock, AR., to teach each 7s Eagle Pool player how to train for change in direction, enhance optimum 7s running lines, and improve passing technique.
Once a player has attended a US Footwork Camp, then she is automatically eligible to attend the Sr. National Camp (TBA).
At National Camp, players compete against one another for the right to represent the USA at International 7s venues.
Because there is a World Cup for 7s in March 2009, entry into the US Eagle 7s Pool will CLOSE after 7s ITTs. National Camp for 2009 will not be held until after March of 2009.
